Sean Baker is the director of The Florida Project, a film whose title comes from an early name for the land Walt Disney purchased where Disney World and Epcot now reside. The film follows a young girl and her friends, navigating the relationship between the 6-year-old and her mother as they struggle to survive hard times while living in the shadows of Disney World. The film premiered at the 2017 Director’s Fortnight in Cannes and was nominated for Independent Spirit Award’s Best Feature and Best Director, and Baker was awarded Best Director of the Year by the New York Film Critics Circle.
