Pages for
the Ages

Turning great ideas into lasting conversation, one chapter at a time

Pages for the Ages brings college students and older adults together in a student-led intergenerational book club, where every voice is heard, and every generation has something to teach and something to learn. Pages for the Ages is now an official program of the Winter Park Institute.

About the program

Shared stories, shared understanding

Pages for the Ages creates space for students and senior citizens to explore ideas together, talk openly, and learn from one another. Each group centers on books, documentaries, TED Talks, podcasts, and other media that speak to humanity’s greatest needs, giving participants a shared starting point for honest, meaningful dialogue.

The name may say pages, but the conversation can start anywhere a great idea does. Books are at the heart of the program, and a film or a talk can spark just as much.

In these conversations, a college sophomore and a retired teacher sit at the same table as equals. Different life experiences become a strength, and perspectives that might never cross paths are heard, valued, and woven together.

The program’s mission is simple: to deepen understanding and connection across generations through books, conversation, and shared learning.

How it works

How a chapter comes together

Each Pages for the Ages chapter pairs a student group with a community of older adults. Guided by trained student facilitators, participants read, watch, or listen to a selected work and gather for discussions that go well beyond the page.

Explore
together

Participants dig into books, documentaries, TED Talks, podcasts, and more, each chosen for its connection to the questions that matter most in our lives and communities.

Talk it
through

Facilitated discussions invite every participant to share, listen, and consider new points of view.

Build
Connection

Over time, conversations grow into friendships, and a discussion group becomes a community.

College students and older adults

The founding Rollins College chapter pairs Rollins students with residents of Westminster Winter Park and Westminster Baldwin Park in student-led book discussions that take learning beyond the classroom.

Colleges and retirement communities

New chapters pair a college with a local retirement community. Pages for the Ages provides the program model, learning themes, discussion resources, student facilitator training, and ongoing support.
